Why not be a BRS PAID member?

I would like to know why?!

Lots of long time members here that don't support the club. Why? What is wrong and why aren't you a paid member and supporting BRS? I sincerely mean this question...

What should we do to be better? This is just a question I am bringing up and does not in any way reflect any part of the BOD even though I am part of it.

Just something I have been pondering tonight….

Great thread higor. I think in order to encourage people to become a paid member the club should not allow people that are unpaid members to view or post in "want to buy" thread, for sale thread, or for people that are unpaid members to even be able to view the corals, fish, dry goods thread. I bet membership would increase dramatically at that point. It's only $10 and I think because we are a non profit it's even a tax write off lol. That being said I do understand some people have constraints financially. Those threads I mentioned should be considered a privilege for paid members. I believe reef2reef does a similar thing with having a certain post count before your allowed to get into those threads.

Assuming that the website is hosted on a commercial platform one could argue that the largest part of the cost is the images that it contains - they are the largest chunk of traffic, that's certain. It would make sense to limit the non paid members the access to those images, while we definitely have a large community and want to keep it that way if you're not willing to support that community than maybe you don't need full access to the community resources.

Funny you should post this, I just found my check book after it was misfiled for a couple of years and sent my membership in yesterday, its the only thing I use my checks for. For me the only reason I laps on dues is its such a PIA to pay them the rest of the world is using CC.

Can it be paid using PayPal ?.....I went to only 1 meeting and pay my membership. For different reasons I did not attend any other meeting and I hate doing checks. The time pass, you continue using the forum and ....... well is probably time for me to pay again.

What options do we have beside check and in person ?

You can pay through PayPal also which you can use your debit card through.

I became I paid member after a short period of time, but I did wait awhile and contemplated not becoming a paid member mainly because there's a lot of cool things paid members get that are in mass that others like me can't. Like the par meter and the library access. I think it'd be really cool if these things could become available to paid members that don't live right in mass.
Obviously if it had to be shipped that would have to be paid by the person wanting the item And the deposit can easily be PayPal.
Lastly someone said it was $10? I think I paid $20?

I never wavered in my membership I couldn't fathom not supporting something that I gained so much from. So I have been a paid member for 10years. While every year is different there is always 20 dollars worth of value.

You don't need a PayPal account to pay with your debit/credit card. Pretty sure I posted the steps in another thread. There should be a link that says something like "Pay without creating an account."

There are a lot of reasons to becoming a paid club member: par meter, library, club contests (grow-outs; worth the membership price alone, photo, etc.), special projects (Arduino build for instance), supporting the website, guest speakers, on and on.


There really is no excuse for not spending the $20-25 for a 1-year membership if you use the forums on a regular basis and/or come to even just a couple meetings a year. I'll bet $100 for those saying 'times are tough' that they've spent more on a single coral or other tank related purchase recently.

Besides helping the club out, it's a good investment. Think of it as playing the Stock Market, all you have to do is win one of the many contests we have and you already made some money :greedy_dollars:

It's always been $20 or $25 for a family membership since I can remember. Keep the ideas/suggestions coming guys, this is your club whether you are a paid member or not

The steps:

1) Go to the BRS subscription/payment page
2) Choose the right option, for example, if you want the Family Membership you set that drop-down to the 1-year subscription)
3) You should be able to pay with CC/Debit without a PayPal account
