YEAH!! Just got our first fish!

We just added 2 beautiful true percs from CRA-our first fish! Will post pics later when I find my camera... We also got 2 turbos and 10 smaller cleaner snails that Jeremy recommended. We spent most of the night checking them out and they readily ate the frozen brine shrimp that we offered them.

Now, a couple of questions...we'd like to add a BTA at some point. We don't have any corals at this point yet- just a bunch of live rock- but we want to slowly add. Should the BTA be added before any corals, just so it can settle in? And should we add it sooner rather than later? Any other suggestions welcomed! Thanks!

i would add the bta before the other corals to give it time to plant its foot, however theres no guarantee that it'll stay in 1 spot.

+1 on putting it in first. Those guys really like to move around to find an optimal spot. Mine decided the optimal spot was directly on a patch of pink palys!!!

Luckily I was able to move *most* of the palys before any major damage was done.

That's what we were thinking- BTA first- after reading numerous posts here about how they move around like crazy at first to find "their spot" and folks scramble to move corals.... Thanks for the responses! So we'll go a week or 2 with just the 2 percs, then we'll start looking for a BTA and some other fish for our 90. I've got to say, researching all this stuff together had been a lot of fun for me and my wife! :)

If I could do it all over again I wouldn't even bother with a BTA. I've lost some of my prized corals to my RBTA moving and splitting. It killed my really nice Acans and other Acros.

Of course my latest split the stupid thing won't move! hahaha I want it to move and it won't. Mr. Murphy has his evil clutches on my tank. :D

Clowns don't NEED BTA's it just looks cool.

My clowns are BTA-less and happy. I don't think I will ever put an anemone in a tank with $$$$$ worth of corals it could sting and kill. After a while it will find a place to sudo host in, ours hosts in behind the thermometer, behind the return nozzle, and the smaller one hosts in a small divot in one of our rocks.

Sometimes I feel bad that they have to host in all these seemingly uncomfy places...but I like more corals to much! (note: there is a rock out in the sand bed covered in GSP, so they have something they could host in if they really wanted to)

If he still has any left, I highly recommend getting a BTA from Jackapratt. I bought one from him a couple of weeks ago or so, and it's GORGEOUS!!

Here's the anemone in my tank, with happy hosting clowns :)

I wouldn't get a BTA if you ever plan on getting corals.... I'd get a toadstool if you want the clowns to host something.... bta's moving = possible bad things happening... IMO

Thanks for the BTA tips..... I know they could cause problems and that clowns don't need them, but we do like how they look and we're hoping in our 90 that we'll have enough elbow room and we won't overstock to the point where the BTA will hurt anything. That's why we're doing the BTA first before any corals.... And Phaedraeos- thanks for the heads up on Jackapratt. Will contact him when we're ready... -D&J
