yellow sponge like thing on my LR and corals -- is it good? bad? help!!!

Does it look to have a tube comming off of it? If so, they may be colonial tunicates. Harmless to your reef. Generally means that there is excess orgainics in the water though. If you feed less or increase your skimming, you should see a decrease in the population.

pinapple sponge possibly. Guessing it is some sort of sponge. The green stringy stuff on you canday cand and around the tank looks to be hair algae wich is more of a problem then the sponge. Sponges are typically considered good things.

thank you guys again for the help!

Thanks beckbrass -- would you happen to know how they might have got there? we never used to have any sponges ... I got a bunch of LR from another reefer, but the strange thing is that all the sponges are starting to appear on our old rock ...

And I agree with you on the hair-algae ... we actually used to have a lot more, so getting it in control slowly and steadily ... unfortunately my wife loves it lol :-P

It is just yellow sponge it is a sign of a healthy tank.

cool! thanks guys! that's a relief! :)

Now can I move these sponges so that they're not sitting on top of my corals? lol
