I know soem people do keep zebra eels out there but how many people are bold enough to keep eels in a reef tank with coral????....i already know the negatives like potentially inadvertently knocking over some corals and more importantly causing water quality issues with their waste but can it be done?? is it being done??? or is is just a recipe for longer term failure due to deteriorating water quality issues????? I am aware of why i wouldnt or shouldnt but with this thread i would like to know who IS getting it done already????? thanks....any success stories for me on zebra eel or other eels in a reef tank??????

I had a morey..key word had..ate all my crabs, snails ,shrimp and everything else that it could fit in its mouth

hmm....i know zebras are the most docile and seem to be best community tank eels available but on the water quality issue were u able to sustain decent to good water quality required to have a successful reef tank??????or is Fish Only the ony place to keep them.

Anyone else have a zebra moray in a thriving reef tank??????

Not really.because they are messy eaters.and say goodbye to your whole cleanup crew which is a vital part of keeping good water quality as well.

I wasn't aware they would be so interested in crabs and snails and shrimp....I read some people had no issues with shrimp. I hear ya clean up crew is a must have....so that would be bad....

I had an 18-24" snowflake in my reef for a while. He left my shrimp alone but water quality was starting to get to be an issue, He ate 6-8 silversides every other day. I got rid of him because he was stressing out all of my fish that were in the tank with him. He would even chase them around and try to bite anything close when that first silverside hit the water. Was kinda funny watching him try to go after my blue jaw trigger though and then having the blue jaw go and steal the silversides right out of the eels mouth...

I have np biopellets which can work wonders in a tank with heavy bioload. Wondering if people have been more successful with abilty to house messy eels in a tank reef tank recently due to the recent invention of biopelllets.....

Anyone think I can overcome the poor water quality caused by messy eels by running biopellets? I have reef tank and want an eel buy don't want to ultimately sacrifice the success I have had with corals by giving into desire to have zebra moray...

cleanup crew which is a vital part of keeping good water quality as well.

Thats not true.

I think It would be a huge headache if you have an established reef to put one in. I wouldn't recommend it. If you start a reef around it that may be easier but not much...

Anyone else out there keeping an eel in a reef tank?????
