Zeovit Basics

I've been running NP Pellets for about 2 months and since I started these I've noticed a huge cyno bloom and it doesn't seem to go away. The tank is a 6' 125g and I have 2 mp40 on reef crest mode and/or on nutrient export mode so flow isn't a problem. I switched the bulbs to 3 brand new ones last month so bulbs are good right now.

I was indecisive as to go with the pellets or go with the zeovit before so I went with pellets after reading many good things about them, but it seems to be not working for me.

I want to start Zeovit instead. Now I have no idea how to start this right now, I've been reading, but I'm still a bit confused.

The tank is currently a Mixed reef, but I'm heading towards mostly SPS and some LPS.

What do I need to buy to start this?
How much and what should I dose?

TIA :p

You seriously need to figure out the source of your cyanobacteria bloom before you start making wholesale changes like this.

All this cyno started right after I setup the pellets. Before that I had a tiny amount here and there but nothing serious, it's even starting to get onto the rocks. I have to clean the glass twice a week when it was just once or twice a month so I'm thinking it's the pellets

I know Liam said he experienced cyano when he was using the NP biopellets, and when he switched back to zeovit it went away. So the bio-pellets may be the source in some way. And what u want to use depends on what you want to get fro
it. I started with zeolites, zeobak, zeofood 7, and zeostart2. These are the basic additives. I also used zeo snow and realy liked it. Start slow then read About each additive and see what they are ment for. Add one additive at a time to your additives. Use it for a little and see if you like it, this way you can use the ones you like and stop if you don't like it. Again start slow and take your time it is a good system if you have the time for it.

Your dosing your tank so in turn dosing the cyano. It is basically vodka dosing made simple.

Zeovit is pretty easy to control and has better set of guidelines to work from. My experience with Zeovit is it works great. You just need to be diligent and tune the system to your tank. As stated before start slow using the Guidelines laid out in the Zeo guide. Then slowly tune it to your tank.

Running carbon is also good when running the Zeo system.

Simply put it works.

Certain parts of the Zeo system will feed the cyano. I would back outof the Bio pellets and get the tank in order
then make the switch. But that is just me.

IMO, you also need to be more patient with changes, like starting biopellets. That's a big change, and it will take a while for that change to take effect.

FWIW, we have a speaker coming in to do a Zeo / Biopellets presentation on August 14. It is going to be in Quincy, which might be a bit of a drive from Manchester, but it should be worth it.

True but if you have a cyano outbreak you are overdosing your tank. Same would be true for Zeovit

good point....

His name Murry Camp and the meeting will be Saturday Aug 14th, 12-4:30 Quincy VFW Hall, Quincy, MA (from the "evolving" monthly meeting sticky in RT)

Here's a quicky background...

Murray Camp is a reef aquarist with over fifteen years of experience in keeping captive marine ecosystems, from 20 to 800 gallons. He is a member of the Dallas Marine Aquarium Society and Dallas/Ft. Worth Marine Aquarium Society, and currently runs four reef systems using different probiotic methodologies. He lives in Dallas, Texas with a Great Dane and two kids, and supports his reef keeping obsession by practicing trial law.

Oh and have you read the zeovit manual. If not I would suggest you do. It was verry helpful for me.

I just downloaded it and I'm about to start reading it. I do remember Liam saying something about getting cyno so it made me think the same about the pellets.

Thanks for all the links! I'm definitely going to look more into it since i have heard about it being a bit easy to control if managed correctly.

I'm thinking of giving the pellets another month or two to see if anything changes. I do feel that with making changes like this I have to let the water settle in place so I'll give it a little more time. I want to start understanding the Zeovit system before I decide to take out the pellets, this way I have a good understanding of how it works and what not to do :D

I definitely want to make it to meeting but the distance from Southern RI makes it hard without a car :( And besides, embarrassed to say, I'm still not a member :o But this will change next week! :D
