Two weekends ago I bought a PM1 module with temp and pH probes from alex1977. In order to get it set up and calibrated I needed to order some usb cables, pH calibration fluid, etc. While I was doing that I also bought an EB8, break-out box, two float switches, and a couple new maxijet 600s.
Mid last week I got all the stuff in and set up the EB8 and PM1. I put one of the maxijet 600s in the QT tank to get the cardinals use to a little more flow. They are doing great; eating well, swimming around a bit, etc. I plan on moving them to the DT later this week.
Tonight I did my ~50 gallon water change in the DT and a 5 gallon change in the QT. After that I finally got around to calibrating the Apex pH probe which is reading +/- 0.01 now. With the API test I was reading 8.0-8.2; with the pH probe I'm getting 7.99.
I also did some testing with some warm water, my two temp probes, and a normal thermometer like you'd use to check for fevers. My unscientific test shows the temp probes getting within about 1 degree of the thermometer; I figure that's close enough for now. I figure the thermometer takes quicker readings and doesn't have all the plastic around it that has to come up/down to temperature.
The break-out box comes Wednesday I think, so I need to figure out how to mount my float switches in the sump. I'm figuring on using both to control the water level. Low will turn the ATO pump on, high will turn it off. Also plan on using hysteresis and max times if the Apex programming allows those types of commands. That way I can lessen the amount of on/off/potential spillage.
Next up for the MrX fish-tel I think will be some Lyretail Anthias.
