GFO media questions for the gang

I've got a 125 gal tank with about 30 additional gallons in the sump.
I just added a Phosban reactor to the sump, and it's working well. I'm using a Seachem product that half phosphate remover and half carbon. I like running carbon as a water polisher.

I'll need to get more media soon, and was looking at Bulk Reef Supply. They have GFO and high capacity GFO. Do people really use the high capacity stuff? Seems like paying for "Extra Strength RainX" when the normal stuff works fine.


Second question, can I mix off the shelf GFO with off the shelf carbon in the Phosban?

Third question, if any one knows of a good source for phosphate remover in the Phosban, would you please post? PM would be fine too if you're into whispering rather than shouting.

I use the regular stuff, seems to work fine. I have not tried the high capacity though.

Yes, I do. Technically, they may have different lifespans though, but I just adjust the ratio to accommodate as best as possible.

Most of the GFO in the hobby is made by a company Lanxess and the product is called "Bayoxide". They will not sell to the public though. BRS or Premium Aquatics generic GFO seem to be the best deals on it.
