question about my cycle

I'm new to saltwater. It seems my nitrites have spiked and returned to zero but my nitrates have also gone to zero. Any recommendations or similar experiences?

give it more time , how long has cycle been going ? NEVER rush it . all you;ll get are problems in the end . trust me on this . Big system or small system the same thing

I forgot to mention it has been less than a month since I started curing the dry rocks. Im using reef saver and pukani. The ammonia was sky high for the first week but has dropped to .25 the nitrites spiked all the way up and came back down but im suprised to see that the nitrates which were up a bit have also come down. No water changes were done.

Thanks reefatarter. Thats what I figured. Ill give it several more weeks before moving the rocks into the aquarium. They are in a brute trash barrel right now with a heater and two pumps.

yeah give it more time for sure . add a piece of raw shrimp now and let it go at least a month . I rushed mine a bit and paid for it . won't do that again lol

I wouldn't add any shrimp... You already have ammonia in your system and nitrites have already started, now all you need to do is wait for 0 ammonia and 0 nitrites. Check your nitrates when that happens.
Your cycle is considered complete when the first two disappear and nitrates stop climbing. Good luck:)

So you are just curing the rock? not cycling a tank?

Sorry, so im curing the rocks. The ammonia was as high as it could be a very dark green and then the nitrites climbed followed by nitrates but now all are at 0. I added a few flakes of food 4 days ago and checked today and everything's still at 0. Starting to wonder if my test kit got messed up or if the nitrates might settle on the bottom? I have live sand in the too.

The rocks were put in the water about a week before I started testing.

If your a guy having a cycle you have more serious issues.

Haha. It must just be that time of the month.
