Reef_Engineer's 300G System Build

You mentioned that you're going to use the Miracle Mud. I'm very interested in this myself for my new build. Where and how are you planning on incorporating it in your system?

I plan on two 1g plastic trays in the sump. Once per year i replace the mud in one of them. I am relying on it primarily for trace mineral replenishment.

Also… i got fish! Six epic spotcinctus two line clowns from @Kens Bees who are happily eating in qt with metro and prazipro. Then i got a hippo tang, scribbled rabbit fish, and powder blue from fishotel.com, pre quarantined and super healthy and eating. I would highly suggest that vendor for pre-qt’ed fish. Jeff the owner is a great guy.

I also have some test corals from @ReefBum (thanks Keith!!) which are doing great, merlins beard acropora, wwc grafted capricornis, and milka poccilopora.

Tank doing well, tskes 2L of kalkwasser per day just to keep the Alk at 7, which is surprising to me, but my hanna kits agree with the trident. Hopefully it isn’t solidifying my sandbed or something…

Pictures or it didn't happen

Lol I'll get on some pics. Tank is all blues right now. I am on it!

I want to get the new Geo Extreme calcium reactor since it has better CO2 utilization and more potent effluent than the classic, but oof, thats a bunch of dough.

I recall seeing a member selling one on here. Love seeing the updates to this build, great work man.

Any pics or dimensions of the trays you're using? Are you planning on using them B4 or after the skimmer? Also HOO! RAA! on the fish! Can't wait for more pics.

Thanks

i have the classic 818 calrx and i use the reborn media with no problems on the effluent. The new one geo made its basically the same with an extra media canister for the effluent to run through it. Let me know if your interested in it. i also have some nice high end equipment for your high end built =)

As soon as I find a decent tray ill post the one I am using. Right now the sump is stuffed with rock rubble. I want to get that out and put the trays in its place.

Fish are all eating live blackworms and frozen food. I need to buy or print an apex feeder tube setup so i can feed dry.

Also got some hermits/snails that i put into qt.

Pics coming!

Buddy @Gardiner printed me a feeding tube for the AFS. It looks killer, thank you!

Then I finished the screen tops. They arent perfect but will do the job!

Going to lower lights tomorrow and measure PAR.

Six clowns in QT for one more week of copper, prazi, matro. All doing awesome.

I want to get them an anemone. A bit worried about putting a nem in with no QT (current qt tank has copper in it). Gotta read up on the acclimation strategies to avoid ich hitchhiking in with a nem.

Do you have the file or the link for the feed rings?

Bought a great CSB from @Brandon0921 which seems to be happy.

The clowns (all 6) are beautiful and graduate from QT on 10/5.

Still low nutrients so bough some neophos and neonitro to get the nitrate and phosphate detectable. I am shooting for 10-15ppm nitrate and 0.05-0.1ppm phosphate.

Took filter socks out and shut off skimmer to help the nutrients increase as well.

Other fish doing well, powder blue is a bully, but will hopefully chill out with more fish present.

Sorry for the bad pic of clowns. They are gorgeous so ill get a better one.

He printed me one that was too short for my tank (very thick eurobracing) which you can have, just remind me before fragsgiving

Sorry for the mess, but the old kalk drum is 5g bucket, had to refill every 5 days. New kalkwasser drum is 30g, only have to refill once a month. I just wish it was clear instead of blue, so i could see when low, but might throw a level sensor in someday.

Pardon the remaining new tank uglies. The two stripe red sea clown harem found their CSB!

Odd though, tank alk as measured by trident keeps falling. Despite dosing 4L of kalkwasser a day. Strange

Ok tank update:

1. Clowns and anemone doing awesome. Super fun to watch. Anemone eats well and is getting big.
2. The powder blue and rabbit fish and regal tang have gotten large quickly. The powder blue is a psycho and wants to kill any newcomers to the tank. He is ferocious. I am going to try to trap him and put him in time-out.
3. Tank still suffering from dinos. Dosed silicate yesterday. Hopefully get a diatom bloom and get rid of these dinos. I'd love to just have a normal algae problem at this point.

Tank params as of last night:

SG: 1.025
CA: 465 (trying to lower slowly)
ALK: 8.26 (stable, dosing soda ash)
Mag: 1450 (letting come down slowly)
Nitrate: 7.3ppm (trying to keep around 10ppm)
Phos: 0.06ppm (trying to keep around 0.05ppm)

Acropora, Montipora, Stylophora still thriving in the tank, so definitely ready for more coral.

Got a Yellow Mimic Tang (juvie chocolate), a blonde naso, and a yellow eye spotted kole. The kole is in QT getting a lip infection sorted out from transport. The blonde naso and mimic went into the DT last night and are being absolutely thrashed by the powder blue, so I need to figure that out fast.
