Reef_Engineer's 300G System Build

This just in:

My giant colorado sunburst ate one of my borbonius anthias. This may go down as the most expensive meal ever fed to the anemone. Hopefully nothing tops this.

Tank doing well, growing along. Have a purple tang and pintail wrasse in QT right now. Borb that wasnt eaten is doing great.

Added a Tunze 6255 eco and man that thing is awesome. Cut down Vodka dosing to 10ml/day after tank had overabundance of bacterial mulm. Other than that just feeding. I did add a CO2 scrubber that raised my daily pH from 7.85-8.0 to 8.1-8.25, so that is something I suppose. But it is burning through soda lime so we will see if the small pH boost is worth the cost.

Tank stand had no skin for a year. Time to fix that.

I need to modify the electronics panels slightly to accommodate the hardware. Job for another day!

Tank is chugging along, maintaining ALK/CA/Mag stable. Phosphate hanging at like 0.1ppm which is right where I want it. Nitrate a bit high in the 20s, but coming down slowly.

I plan to test fit a Klir this weekend and see if they might be an option to replace my filter socks, but my sump is tight so if it doesnt fit I will have to stick with the socks.

All fish doing great, there was a bad time a few weeks back where I got some fish into my QT and a uronema outbreak killed them all, but I suppose that is why we QT. I broke down the QT and am letting it dry out before attempting to put any more fish through it.

I am on the hunt for a Reef Octopus Regal 250 (not the space saver or external, just the normal one), and may just buy one. If I do my Royal Exlusive Bubble King Deluxe 200 will be for sale. I am switching to coralvue to use common controllers and pumps as my return pumps are varios, as well as CARX pump and my spares.

I don’t mind higher nutrients if things look good. Those numbers seem fine to me. Everyone hates socks these days! I don’t mind them.

I agree with this statement right here! I prefer to judge how the tank looks vs nutrient levels. I have seen many amazing reef tanks that have nutrient levels that are considered "high" from a reefing standpoint.

Yup. 0.1ppm phosphate ensures enough is present but not crazy high. Nitrate 5-30ppm seems fine and delivers good color.

The only algae in my tank is valonia and the crabs are eating that. So I am happy where my nutrients are.

Test fitted Klir last night, it fits so now i need to buy a couple (the test unit showed up broken so went back). I dont mind socks a ton, but i have to change them every 5 days and rinsing socks with the hose in 15 degree weather is not my favorite activity. If the filter rollers last a long time, ill keep using them. If not, ill go back to socks. I will allow some water to bypass the rollers if they start stripping too much from the tank.

I added a roller mat on my setup that I got super cheap as it is discontinued and it is super nice and I was surprised how it doesn't smell. I don't think I'll ever have filter socks after trying out the roller mat!
