Heating question

Building out a little grow out and sump room in my basement having issues with heating I have a 700 watt and a 500 watt heater in a 150 sump only filled with about 80 gallons and tons of rock that has been cycling for 2 months lately the heaters can’t keep up I have tried a new ink bird controller and a helio neither seem to do good

what is your ambient temp in your basement?
Your water turnover/flow may be to high and not giving the water enough time to warm up. 1,200 watts for 80 gallons is 15wpg which is high.

Right now it’s only the stock tank with a pump and a powerhead to keep moving the water ambient temp is about 69

my guess is 1 of the heaters may have failed possibly. I only have 300 & 200 watt on 200G water volume system.
Also do you have something in the tank moving the water around?

You seem to have more than enough wattage, so my guess is either you have a "flaky" thermostat or a heater could be in a "dead spot" and the water around the heater(s) are at temp and clicking off. Have you probed around with thermometer to see if temp is consistent?

FYI: I am currently running an 800W Hygger "Block Heater" in series with an Inkbird laying in the bottom of a sump and it keeps a 180 gal dialed in at 78F in a basement that can be 60F in the winter. So if you have enough circulation, things should work.

I would say one of the heaters failed or they are not in a area that has enough flow. I have 200+ gallons in the basment and have 800W during the winter and use 200w in the summer to keep at 76F.

Have a powerhead moving the water right over the heaters and the inkbird I am using has dual probs one at either end

Is it correct that your finnex heaters are just heating elements and do not have a thermostat in them. The only temp control is via the Inkbird.
