Seriously getting Pissed! Why cant I get rid of this??

BTW......if you add any new sand, you'll get diatoms.
Even if you siphon the diatoms up and then wash the sand and return it,you'll have diatoms. When I made the move I went through the trouble of rinsing any new sand with ro/di thouroughly. This could have staved off a diatom bloom as I did use tap water for rinsing the 55 gallon's sand.
Good luck......

Mine has the see through piggy back DI resin chamber.
So I would just go to bulkreefsupply.com for my di resin.

Yes,

I looked at mine and it's a simple as undoing the John guest fittings on each end. Then unscrew the blue cap.I haven't done it yet,but that's what it looks like to me.

I doubt with all those air bubbles it is Diatoms. FWIW 7-8 months is always good for a cyano Dino bloom as youre sand bed is finishing off its cycle.

I would follow NBLs advice, if it is dino you want to head it off at the pass.

Do you have any good links to read up on Dino?

The bubbles are definantly prominant where the brown is.

I started skimming wet and will be investing in some Kalk and start dripping.

Greg, Thank you for the link.

After I complete my water change this weekend I am going to start dripping Kalk and reducing my lighting schedule.

In the subject of dripping, can I rig a gallon water jug with some airline tubing and valve? Or do you use that Kent Marine rig that they sell at LFS's?

I use an old air valve and a 2 gallon container. only issue is the valve clogs and you need to open it a few turns for a few seconds to clear. It works on a siphon so no pumps.

Cool, keep's the cost down.

So when your consistantly dripping kalk, how many drops per second are you aiming for?

Also, how do you keep everything else balanced? Do you dose with anything else?

I skimmed this over, but I did not see much info on the sand. Is this live sand? Did you use anything to inoculate it? I've found that if you if you get a good population of worms turning over the surface of the sand you are a lot less likely to have these types of problems. Try and a cup or two of sand from a healthy tank.

increase your flow and get some sand snails or left legged zebra hermits. they will eat it up in no time, and never to return again!

I have a decent sized clean up crew and it's not making a dent to this crap. I have an attack plan in place. I will keep everyone posted.

Just an Update, looks like my DI was in need of replacing. My tank has gotten bad to the point that my pink coraline on the back of my tank is now brown with tiny bubbles, plus I have brown/red creeping on the rocks.

I ordered new resin from Bulk reef supply, plus new filters from Filterdirect.

After numerous water changed this cyano/dino kept getting worse and noticed my di resin was almost black and I never thought to check.

Any other measures I should take to deal with this? This sucks.

I agree with what everyone else is saying about patience, and I would run a p04 reactor as I believe phosphate should be removed from a reef tank from day one.....but try this out: Shut all lights off for two-three days (corals will be fine and fish dont care), then when you turn them back on it will be GONE...then to keep it from coming back again start with half of your photo period and add an hour per week for three-four weeks.....I know it will work because your tank is a little too mature for a diatom breakout....and I recently moved houses and moved the tank and removed all of my old sand (it was way too fine and blew everywhere) so I added 50lbs of new aragonite sand seeded with other live sand, but the majority of my sand wasn't live for the first month or so, and I got a little diatom breakout. So I recently upgraded lights and my tank was in the dark for two days and the diatoms are gone!!..I plan on cutting my photoperiod in half and adding an hour per week till its back to normal, as should you....the darkness in combination with running GFO, and adding or changing some flow should knock it out for good...good luck!:.

Thank you for the advice, I will try shutting down the lights for a couple of days and see what happens.
