20W Multichip LED build for Nano FW

Did you ever get the warm white? Im going to build this within the next few weeks for a planted tank also and was wondering which you preferred

Jarob - sorry for the delay. I have the warm white, but have kept the Cool white on for now. If/when I switch it out I'll let you know. There seems to be a lot of fear of red wavelengths causing excessive algae growth, but I have yet to see much experimental data concerning heavily planted tanks. The cool white LED's have an abundance of blue light. Warm white also have a high blue peak but offer much more red.

The theory is that submerged plants use mostly blue light for their photosynthesis, while most land plants require more red for late stage growth / flowering. In the case of coral this makes sense. But with plants like ludwigia/java fern/anubias/etc I fail to see the correlation. Most of these plants grow best out of water, and when they do grow in lakes or ponds I doubt it is more than a few feet before they begin to trail off.

In from what I generally understand -
Blue light = vegetative growth
Red light = Flowering / Fruiting

I think I'll learn more through experimentation.

Good luck.
