About to throw my Vortech MP10 out my window!

This damn thing has been whistling/whining/squealing for 2 days now and no matter what speed or setting or readjustment I do it keeps doing it. It'll do it for a few hours then stop then do it again. I've had it since last summer and never had an issue til now. Cleaned everything thinking that might have been the cause and nothing. I wonder if I have a warranty still? Anyone know how long the warranty is on these things?

Yep almost positive I did. I must've because they send me emails. I'll have to give them a call Wednesday after work when I finally get some free time to waste my night talking to tech support.

Anyone have any experience with EcoTech Reps?

for $200 a pump, they should be top notch. I've heard nothing but good about the company!

Well my pump was only $140 ^_^ But yes I think I remember hearing good things too so I hope all goes well with this...

maybe it needs new wetside bearings

might need a new shaft and the rubber ring. If you bought it last summer you better call them asap even an email. Good luck

Wow! Seems I read allot of folks have trouble with those and they continuously need wet sides or bushings/ bearings....great marketing.

Brett is a pretty easy guy to talk to over there. The email address for him is brett<DOT>johnsonATecotechmarine<DOT>com

He helped me with my out of warranty power supplies, and I am dealing with him now on my 2 mp40w's

throw it out the window.....Vortech is junk and WAY overpriced.

I don't think vortech is junk. Powerheads fail ALL the time and since they are cheap, people just throw them out and don't post about it.......in this case, with the price of vortech's, people try to find ways to fix them......they are worth fixing and posting about IMO.

Please let me know when u gonna throw it, i'll wait outside the window.

I need another mp10

I was going to say that also! lol

Ive heard ecotech staff can be good. Ive also heard one "complaint" that for them to fix it they had to make a hold for the full cost of a new pump on the customers credit card until they would ship a new pump so the customer would return the broken one. Quite a hassle since the customer did not have a credit card and the company would offer no other way (if I remember correctly).

Some companies just ship a new item, without all the credit card hassle above. I can see both sides to this(company vs consumer standpoints), but being someone without a credit card I would not purchase a vortech new knowing this.

Lol no I LOVE my vortech and would NEVER use anyone else's chunky ugly loud junk. I just want it silent again. My sound (I think) is coming from the dryside. Sounds like a worn bearing or something in the pump itself. Or just needs some lubricant. Thanks for those who helped, i'll call/email tomorrow including that recommended person.

And no I wouldn't actually throw it out the window. Or if I did i'd go outside and get it after. Lol.

when you pay what they charge you SHOULDNT have to fix them......you should be able to send them back and get a new one if needed.........like TUNZE. IMO way better than vortex

You CAN send them back and get a new one...

And a Tunze costs just as much as a VorTech if not more and has a fairly larger footprint and IMHO is far uglier. NTM the current VorTech controllers are more tunable than the current Tunze IIRC.

Besides, as stated earlier , ALL powerheads wear out over time, Tunze included.

Hell, the McLaren F1 is a $1million car, but that doesn't mean you don't have to do maintenance on it once and awhile.

If parts never broke and always worked 100% then they'd never be making new ones and thus businesses would go under and new product lines would have minimal funding.

My apologies for this comment.I like to try and be constructive...not destructive.Hope it works out for you with little out of pocket $.

Still contacted them through email today, however figured i'd give a status update.

After having cleaned up the powerhead real good, I ran it on lagoon mode at minimal speed overnight, and it has had some time to "realign" itself if you will. I also cleaned my back tank glass btw. And now thankfully it is even quieter than ever today.

Not sure exactly what I did that ended up "fixing" it in the end, weird how for 4 days it squealed off and on and now it's fine, but never the less it is as good as new now. Still contacting VorTech to see what they think I should do.

But for those out there with VorTechs, if it ever starts to be noisey, take it out and clean your glass real good, thoroughly clean your powerhead, clean the pad out in dryside if you use one as well as the glass on that side, that way when you realign the powerhead it can slide easily into place. And voila! Might work for you.

Thread closed for me until I get an email back and i'll post how their tech reps are. Hope this thread helped out someone though, EcoTech and VorTech is a great company with great products and never listen to those who badmouth them until you judge them for yourself.

EDIT: And no worries WillRay, we know you weren't out to bathmouth them. =]

I recently had issues that may have been my fault. They fixed it no questions asked in 2 days. Was less than a week without my MP40. Good company.

Awesome! Glad to hear stories like this. What did they ship overnight?
