Anyone use the black sand?

Just wondering if anyone uses black sand in their tanks? B at Skiptons said it can really make LPS colors on the sand really pop. I do not use a mag float at all, so I don't need to worry about the fact that the sand is magnetic. For some reason, black sand just seems abnormal to me...anyone have pics they could post?

i have black sand in my seahorse tank. you can see a picture of the tank in the photography section. would i put black sand in my 120 gallon reef tank? no. just becasue i feel it would look weird. to me regular sand looks better in a brightly lit reef tank. if you want the colors of your corals to pop how about painting the back of the tank glass black? a lot of people do that

Here is my old tank(solana) it does make colors pop an I do miss it for that.

My upgrade started out with black. Yes the colors looked amazing but the Halides did'nt seem to shimmer. Changed it all out after 2 weeks and went with the white Marco sand. If I was to do a small tank I might try it again.

I have a 39g with the back glass painted black and black sand. It really makes all colors stand out. I couldn't be happier with the combination. If I can borrow a camera over the weekend I will try to post a picture. If you are ever in the area, you are welcome to stop by and take a look.

I have had several tanks with black sand, this one is of my 140 cube. I love black sand, never had issues.

I have a 75 with black sand. I started with really dark stuff, and it looked nice. If you add a Live Rock, a lot of white powder stuff can come off and discolor your black stuff. So I ended up mixing in some grayish black sand before I added all my live rock, just so the white powder from the live rock (and whatever broken shells, corals etc trickle down to the bottom) does not look strange on top of pure black sand.
So overall I guess my tank is blackish-gray sand. Very happy with it. But white looks good too. Its all personal preference really.

I was really considering it on my new 34 gallon build, but I hated how much light it eats. It just isn't as bright as a white, yellow, or pink sanded tank. I love how people show how the colors pop with it, because they really do, but I like my tank to show much brighter than the black sand would allow. Just my 2 cents...

I had it in my Biocube 29. I thought it made my corals color pop. The only thing it was magnetic. Here is a picture of it.
