Better late than never

Hi all,
My name is Al and I'm a Boston native. I have been keeping some sort of an assemblance of a reef tank since I was 12. I'm 37 now. So, Boston native, 25 years addicted....I mean, interested in the hobby, why did it take so long to join BostonReefers? I had no idea you guys existed! But I'm here now and glad for it. And just in time too because I'm going out of my mind looking for a new tank and I need help!
I got a quote for an AGE 60g through Sea Creatures in Revere(still in business?) for $2700! I couldn't pull the trigger. That's LED light money!
I'm now looking at the 90g Oceanic Tech Tank. Tropic Isle quoted me $834. Bigger tank smaller price tag....works for me......but.....
My question is, should I abandon the custom tank route from that one quote or can I find a better price for a custom-made starfire glass tank somewhere?
please help.....need bigger tank....again!

At the upper $$ amounts I would look at Elos or the the new Solana, but the Tech tanks are very nice.

I am out of the loop on custom tank prices as of late. You might take a look in the Vendors experience forum for custom tanks reviews.

:w to BRS!! If it were up to me and upgrading to a larger tank, I would save up and spend the $$ for a custom tank with starfire. But there might be a some tanks a LFS could get for you that come with starfire and save a few bucks. Keep us updated on what you choose

Al welcome to the club.... Took me close to 4 years to join when I originally got in the reef side of the hobby.....My personal preference would be for a production tank...They are more reliable. (seen so many mishaps with custom tanks leaking over the years!!) But that is my personal preference..
Going used though a good savings is a risk...(trust me I had a tank leak from doing so that was very bad!!! Lost 4 years of corals in less than 24 hours from it!!!) Make sure if you find a used one it hasn't been mishandled visibly..(silicon peeling on the edge is a bad sign. Usually from using algae scrapers to close the the edge. Also any chips on the outer glass or slight cracks in the frame (if applicable) are a good indication of mishandling..
