Black spots on mumps leather

I received two leathers from extreme corals on Friday. Yesterday I noticed the had blck spots on the tips does anyone know what that is. I just took them out to redip and the underneath is covered almost like scabs

Do you think thoes areas could have been there before they were introduced to your tank?

I am sorry I do not have a camera . I can scrape them off but I don't know if that is a good idea. I cannot find any info

It sounds like what I think is bacterial infections that are not uncommon with a lot of leathers.

IME occasionally a colony will crash, but they usually recover. Possibly increase flow a bit. I'm not convinced either way if it's good or not to blow the black crud off. I usually do when I have seen this, but I'm not necessarily sure it helps??

It seems to be shedding and some of the black spots are shedding off too. some of the tips look like they are rotting

I would shade them a bit, turkey baste the decay off and keep them in a part of the tank that has flow, just not direct flow. I had a green toad do this and really look bad a few months back. I put in a part of the tank that it was half shade and a bouncing current off the glass so it came back onto the leather enough to help shed the dead layers. It is slowly recovering and showing its polyps again. If its starts to fall apart to the touch and break up it may not make it. I wish you the best with them.

yeah once it starts to fall apart I have tossed leathers. I will get in touch with extreme corals.
