Bleaching/Shrinking Colt??

Guys I need some help. Over the past two weeks I have noticed my Colt go from the size of soccer ball to the size of a base ball. The colt has some bleaching also. I have a spaghetti leather that is doing the same thing. I have numerous other leathers, zao's and other softies. All are doing well. Any ideas would be great. I cant stand to see these wither away to nothing.

Ca=420, dKH=8, Sal 1.022, Nitrate=0,Phoshate=0.

Thanks

IMO the salinity is a little on the low side for corals. I like to keep mine at 1.025 and thats about average for a reef tank but seeing how other corals are doing good that's prob not the case but couldn't hurt to bump it up slowely...

Also what kind of flow are they in? Too much flow could hurt softies and not enough won't let their "slime coating" come off and let the polyps come out...

You also might want to try fragging them if they don't improve soon so that you can at least save the good parts and give them a change to regrow...

are you running carbon yet? if not i would and see if there is some chemical warfare going on.. my leather shrinks and i know i need to use some carbon and BAM its back to its old self..

Dave,
Thanks for your input
The flow is the same as it was and has been for the last year. I will try adjusting my Salinity a bit to see if things improve.

If dont see any improvement in a week or so, I will start to frag.

Yes I am running carbon. I changed it about 2 weeks ago, When I first noticed the problem. Good point though, I will replace it again.

Thanks
Rich

Bump the Alk/SG up some and dose some iodine.
Also,check that temperature.

Is there anything that could be stinging it? (LPS with sweepers at night?)

+ for dosing with iodine. I noticed awhile back my colt and some of my softies doing the same thing. I started dosing Lugol's Iodine solution on a regular basis and all of them colored right up and been growing like crazy. I need to frag down my pink colt every few months because it gets so big.

I have a galaxy coral close by and did notice some very long sweepers extending from it Apprx 4-5 inches. Although the colt is about 14 inches from this coral. Could they extend that far??

I would possibly try to move one or the other and dose with iodine. Hopefully things improve.

if its melting away i would take it out i had one do that to me and ended up with high nitrates and alot of slime
