Bummed!

My tank was doing great! Stable fish for a year, almost every fish I had was thriving...(new fish were bullied and killed by clownfish). I thought I would try a new tang since it is bigger than a clownfish and would less likely be bullied.

I was worried by chocolate tang/mimic tang would bully and kill the new fish, but since he was my favorite I was ok if it was the new fish over my chocolate tang.

I found a Kole Eye Tang and was psyched that it was a little bigger than my chocolate so it would have a better chance.

One week two days not a single sign of aggression either way. Today I get home from work and my chocolate tang is dead!

Has anyone had aggression be dormant for a week before suddenly it kills?

I am bummed my favorite fish died because I wanted to add another tang. I though Kole Eye Tangs were suppose to be the most docile tangs?!?

Bummer, sorry.

IME kole's are very tame and mild mannered. Maybe it's just a coincidence on the timing?

^ that said, I've always believed that multiple tangs in smaller tanks (say less than 250 gallons) actually stress each each other out a lot due to their territorial instincts and behavior. Lots of us reefers keep multiple tangs and believe they are perfectly fine together, but I do wonder if perhaps they are actually driving each other completely crazy being housed together.

Hard to say, just looking to offer food for thought.....
