Buying rodi vs making your own

Just throwing this out to see what people think about the idea of buying rodi water from lfs for water change vs making your own water.
I do water change about 10g a week. The cost to replace rodi filters yearly is about $50-$70/year. I pay water bill about $150/quarter.

My local lfs sells rodi 10g for just $2.

My rodi system rcently went bad and tds readig was vefy high. I have been thinking to buy rodi water from my lfs for water change instead of making my own. As a home owner, I do not see any savings from making my own.

What do you people think and or thoughts?

I can see your point but if you make your own you control the water quality. If you have a hand held TDS meter I'd be interested in knowing what the water quality is at your local LFS. You are obviously in the MWRA water district so you are paying a sewage charge for all the rejection water going down the drain.

Not having to lug 5 gal water bottles to and from the store and in the house makes it all worth it for me and I can test/control water quality

Forgot to factor in your gas, time, and the other things you wouldn't normally buy when you are at the store. I think RODI is best investment next to a controller. If you have an emergency it nice to have a lot of water on hand.

the waist water can be used for your washing machine. that way it is not just going down the drain.

Yup, I enjoy having RODI. Just spent $70 for a membrane, DI, carbon block and sediment filter. I normally replace the membrane biyearly at about $40 and a DI, carbon block and sediment filter is $25 every 4-6 months. I'd love a controller but my lights have a built in controller, my dosing pump has a built in controller, I built a temp controller with a digital proofer thermostat and I have a Avast ATO. I like them being separate because one failure the whole system does go down.
