carbon and phosban in the same reactor

Can this be done? Can I mix phosban and carbon? Right now I have a phosban reactor running into a filter sock with carbon but have enough room in the reactor to put carbon, can I just put a mesh divider in between them?

i don't see why not.. only prob is that carbon requires more flow than phosban.. but if you run it low overall i can't see any probs..

not sure, but i've seen companies selling commercial mixes of carbon and phosphate removing compounds... like this one here...

Ray this can definiely be done. As a matter of fact the single chamber Bulk Reef Supply media chamber is designed to use both media in a single chamber. You put about 3"-4" of GFO first, then the sponge, and then pack the rest tight with carbon.

Of course for $20 more you can get the dual chamber reactor. An extremely cool piece of equipment which comes with a maxijet quick connect connector.

I do it. I put the carbon first though then a sponge then the GFO. I use the 2LF reactor. I tried GFO first but the carbon compacted everything too much and the GFO turned into a brick.

Hi Ray. I do both in one. I keep the GFO in a media bag inside the reactor, so I don't have to replace it when I replace the carbon (which is more frequent) -I guess I'm cheap.

Seems to work fine though, no compaction.
