How long do you run Carbon and/or Phosban for ?

Hi all,

I have just installed a Phosban reactor and a Carbon reactor on my 75 gallon display. They run in series with the carbon first feeding into the phosban reactor and then discharging into my fuge before returning to the display tank.

I am winning a slow battle with diatoms (tank has been running since 04/06) and cyano (small infection but darn annoying).

I am using only RO/DI water with TDS of 0. Although this RO system has only been in place for about a month, prior I was using a DI filter system only.

I have been told that Phosban and Carbon both strip out organics and "stuff" from the water and to be careful not to over strip my water.

So, how long should I use these products for ? One day a week, one week a month or continuously ? or Some where in between ?

i run carbon all the time and change it every week... i only run Rowa phos when needed...

May I ask what signs in your tank tell you that you need to run phosban ?

I'm running it currently to help with the diatoms/cyano issue.

I do test for it but to tell you the truth i let my tank tell me when to run it... if i see a algae bloom starting in and around the tank anywhere I'll add a small mess bag of Rowa to my phosban reactor and let that run for a few days and then pull it... seems to keep it in check for me..

I run both 24/7 as well. Change each bag monthly or so.
