cracked tank. HELP

Conlius

Fish Eater!
so, i just looked under my 20L, up at my overflow, and there seems to be a small crack on the bottom of the tank. It starts at the bulkhead and then travels about 3 inches toward the left. Do you think i could have wacked the pipe comming out of the bulkhead by accident? What should I do? drain the tank and seal it with silicon? or should i just buy a new tank? acrylic sheet on it? please let me know asap because it has a really small slow leak.

Chris, I would put everything in a rubbermaid tub for now. Tough to seal a 3" crack near a bulkhead and not worry about it everynight....jmo. I would get a new one or look for a used one.

I would replace the tank. I don't think I could sleep at night wondering if 20gals of water was going to come pouring out of the tank at any minute. If it makes you feel any better I broke 5 20Longs in one weekend. I'm not too close to you, but if you need a drill bit to drill another 20 let me know.

A new tank is needed. Don't trust a repaired tank.

yes, this is true, if it was a 180, i would have probably already shot myself. But im going to pick up a new tank tomorrow, i already drained everything out, sand is in its own bucket, and the rocks, fish, and everything else is in a rubbermaid. I just walked outside and threw the god damn thing in the barrel....im so sad

That's a bummer man. I had a 29 gl for a couple years and had to move it twice. The tank bounced back pretty quickly though. But I agree, a new tank is the best way to go, especially for a small tank that won't cost too much.
Good luck with it.

PJ's pet in Saugus has good prices, it was time for a bigger one anyway. :D

Just think of it as a chance to fix anything you didn't like about your reef. Now's the time!!
