Hello, ok let me tell you what I have and what I have done. Just bought a Tank from a fellow member( thank you Vincent )JBJ 28g 150W HQI tank, 30 lbs of black sand from prtsmart and 15 lbs of dry clean rock

. Ok what I have done.. Took 50 gallons from my 155 gallon tank as I do every 2 weeks for a water change. Took the 50 gallons and used half to rince the new sand. Then put sand in the tank. then took a sock from my sump then with a pump and hose filled the tank through the sock. Added another 15 lbs of live rock from my main tanks sump and from the tank itself

. Ok my question- it has been 5 days and no nitrite or amonia how long should I wait to see if any nitrite or amonia shows up or is it possible the tank it alreaady cycled. I am putting seahoeses in the tank and do not It want to do it too soon. Thanks

Unless you do something to spike it, it'll just lay fallow without really building any biological filter suitable for inhabitants. As you create more ammonia, the nitrifying bacteria will increase to meet the demand. Try squirting some food in the tank to see if it spikes.

a full raw shrimp may be too much for a sumpless 28G. Could start a bad algea bloom. Good to start low and build slowly.

Do you have a nitrate reading?
