DIY remote monitoring- beyond the webcam

~Flighty~

Now with more baby
Has anyone put together a remote monitoring system for their tank? We have a webcam, but you can't get much info just from looking at the display.

We're brainstorming right now, Thinking maybe another webcam in the fish room pointing at various blinky lights and thermomiters? has anyone done things like this and have better ideas?

The most cost effective way for you to do it would be to use X-10 devices to monitor it, and use "Homeseer" to access via the internet. You would be able to monitor which lights are on or off as well as tank temp.

That's exactly what I do. Homeseer has a nice WWW interface and the web cam can be plugged into it. Thru 1-wire temp sensors I can monitor the temperature of the tank, turn lights on/off, and turn off pumps via Zwave modules.
