diy skimmer party???

we have the cones already so we dont need to make any?..we are using them from that site right

FWIW, I don't plan on building a skimmer, I'm just interested watching the project (so don't count me in on the head count).

IMO another big part of this is going to be matching the skimmer design to the pump that will be used. That could take some serious trail and error which could get quite costly...

How about a Ca reactor build? Now that's easy :)

Which site?

Do you mean the Dome things? If so, has anyone figured out how to make those into cones?

Oh, sorry.

Do we know what those are made out of, and or the thickness of the material?

im not too too worried about the pump yet..i wanna just make the whole thing then worry about the pump

1/8 i believe and its acrylic

Oh sorry guys, i called on that cone. its less than 1mm thin wall. not gonna work for us. Victor from atb says that 1/8" should be fine sincehe can stand on top of his that are 5 mm thick wall(1/4ish).

if we want to throw down some bucks on a pump. atb's 2000 pump puts out 2:1 air:water and we can get it for like 360ish if we get 5-6 of them.

we def need to consider a pump for these before the build jimmy made a good point in that lots can go wrong afterwards.

Earlier in the thread someone said 1mm thick?

Not all "acrylic" is created equal, for that price, I doubt it's usable. Maybe if no holes were drilled in it, but I highly doubt it :(

yeah no way im using 1mm acrylic. maaaaybe if it were to be in sump. but i think i want mine out. speaking of which....

do you guys want it in or out of sump?

dont care really..

the only cone i can find is on swc's website and its 209 bucks

edit nm

maybe we should see about making a big recirc one?...it would be easier and maybe cheaper than buying from swc

but i have no idea where to get a big a** tube and how much that would cost

i think thats what we need to figure out

10 in cone.....209
10in x 3 ft tube.....234

and that 10x 3 would be the entire skimmer..
well big that 3 ft could inclube the cup as well..and all we would need is like a little skinnier tube as well idk though the cone might be cheaper in the long run

im def for the a recirculating skimmer. im also very curious about a cone. Removeda big a** cone skimmer like this one drawn out could handle it. whereas we would need to make a huuuuge cylinder style skimmer. 12" is 98 a foot and 10 is 64 a foot.

a cone isnt going to be bad. seriously. especially if we have a mold. if we do. it will be cake.

so here im thinkin that we use somthing to connect the two parts of the seam. heat welding would be ideal. anyone know how? or have the equipment? i miiiight be able to borrow a gun. ill look into it tom.
