DIY VorTech Battery Backup

oh I meant if you didnt have a battery, This as stupid as it sounds is why I want a battery the most. I am pretty sure the battery mode will save your night time mode. I will find out tonight, I guess I had the vor-tech plugged into a outlet that was PH controlled and it shut off in the middle of the night when my PH dipped below 8.0

Amps determines how long it will run. My 18 amp battery will run my VorTech for 18 hours at 50%. Higher amperage would having it running longer.

how sensitive is the vortech power supply to changes in voltage?

did you test it from a full charge to half/mostly drained?

No. They runs AC this is dc. And the vortech is set up to conserve energy in battery mods as well. Well you could run a converter off the battery ms plug the koralia into that. Quickly the price would get close to a vortech though.

Got my rear in gear today and built one of these. Only diff is i'm using an optima blue top marine battery since I had a spare lying around.

Now just gotta get a battery air pump and I should be pretty good for the storm just in case...

Would a 12v 7.2amp batt work? I had a couple and wanted to try and use them.

Any 12V battery will work. The amperage will be number to look at. The lower it is, the shorter it will last. The higher it is, the longer it will last.

Yes, it will only last 40% as long as the 18amp battery though.

I have a couple of them. Do you have to manually lower the speed to save?? It might be a PITA for me because I have them wired thru my APEX. Can I wire a 1.3mm H connector to them and plug them in?

TIA Derek

The Apex controls it normally, but you still plug the battery into the battery port in the vortech controller. If the Apex looses power, the vortech controller will power itself through the battery port. So yes you will have to set the speed manually. The default setting is 20% of the max speed of the pump.

Thank you

you can always add more battery's in parallel connect pos to pos and neg to neg you could put 10 battery's in line if you wanted

You Do It Electronics in Needham is like a little paradise for any electrical component you need. They have everything. It's like Radio Shack in the old days times 100.

Yes, the amps determine how long it will run. You must use a lead sealed acid battery of 12 volts. The one I got is 18 amp and it will run a MP40 at 1/2 speed for 36 hours. You will not have to reset everything if power is lost, the battery just kicks in and the knob blinks green.
