drinking ro di ok?

beckbrass

Make it fun.
Can you drink it? I'm getting 0 tds and want to try it. Or better to drink it before di? This might belong some where else so feel free to move it as you pleas mods.

It tastes great! Absolutely you can drink it. Better than spring water!!

Totally fine to drink. As a matter of fact there are a few places that sell home rodi systems for drinking water air water ice I believe has a home unit iirc.

RO water is good, DI water is ok at best..

and I should add, most 'spring' filters are just activated carbon, most bottled water is ro water with minerals added back in to in-hance taste

i drink it all the time!! they say just swipe your nose and dip your fingers real quick like you were trying to get rid of foam on a beer i guess it adds just enough salt to make it healthy for you.. by its self if you only drink 0 tds water you could get sick cause there's not enough salt in it. the little bit of your fingers makes it all better... just what iv read of the net.....

i was under the impression it was not good to drink, cause your body tries to add back in electrolytes to it so you can actually get dehydrated.

ro doesn't strip the water to 0 tds so you get minerals and whatever else is suppose to be needed from you body...the di wipes the rest out

I've read that drinking distilled water is very bad for you actually because it's deprived of the necessary nutrients that are normally present in water, but I've heard that it's fine to grab the water before it reaches to DI chamber...

Exactly under counter drinking water systems are RO not RODI...

RO/DI is to clean i beleave

RO water is fine to drink. Freshly made deionized is not. Deionized water is one of the most caustic substances around because all the ions have been stripped from it. What that means is that it will strip ions from anything it comes in contact with, including your stomach lining. That's why you're supposed to let freshly made RO/DI water sit for 24 hours before using it so that it can "balance" itself by pulling ions out of the air, and the container it's in. Once it has sat for a day it's now ok to drink.

Ok sounds good. I can split the water line before the di and get to to drink.

if you wanted to 'taste' RODI, it would be fine, but the RO only is what you would want to drink long term.

This has been debunked. But the waste of using DI resin to make drinking water is enough to spend a few bucks on a wye adapter and valve to bypass the DI.

just put it in place after the membrane before the DI cartridges. the make kits so you can mount a faucet on your sink, they come with or without pressurized storage tanks

Can you drink the waste water? My water goes in at 75TDS, whats the worse that could happen??

This is an urban myth- it is completely untrue. Pure deionized water is, by definition, at pH 7.0, and is perfectly safe to drink. It will not sear the mucus membranes in your mouth and throat, it will not eat holes in your stomach, it will not dehydrate you, it will not mess up your electrolyte balance- unless you are not drinking or eating anything else at all. The only "problem" with drinking RO/DI water is that it tastes rather "flat" and bland.

Probably better to just drink it straight from the tap rather than drink the concentrated waste water. I know some people use it to feed their washing machine and water their gardens, but as far as you drinking it, you'd be better off drinking the water from the tap rather than drinking it from your rodi waste line imo.
