DSB problems?

Hey guys not really a discussion if all the buddies here are having a laugh over the oposite side. Here are a few good reads on sand beds. Deep sand beds are not recommended by anyone any more. There out dated and cause failure and are not worth the risk imo.

Side note @JohnK didn't know you were a staff member now? What position?

My sense of humor doesn't always translate well.

This hobby is ever changing, AND there are a lot of ways to run a reef tank. That's the point, and the whole point.

We're all here to enjoy the hobby one way or another. Goals, opinions, and techniques will vary :)

I was dammed to carry that title into the end of time as punishment for being a moderator and other crimes against humanity. I don't do anything except start the occasional silly thread now and then.

John we have met many times and my grammar doesn't help me either and i come off as a prick i guess in text... But as we both know we both love hobby.
I totally agree there is alot of ways to run a reef tank. I just don't see many using under gravel filter but there out there... So Imo I try to align my tank with the fundamentals of a few older reefer I have watched for 15+years and the easy too follow videos bulk reef has. I seem to have pretty good success and happy with coral growth and fish health in my system. Haven't had a reefer not impressed with my setup and definitely have this club over the years to thank for that!

Hello JohnK! ... I probably went down a similar path as you did. My sand bed started out in the 4-5" range and now probably averages ~ 3 inches deep, which keeps the goby and the tiger shrimp / ant farm happy.

Still have the booklets that Bob Goemans put out on DSB and live sand (~ 1998):

I never went as far as putting a Plenum in.

Cheers!

always appreciated your help and the others moving my 180 gal into the house years back.
