Finally getting an upgrade

Hey everyone, it's been a while since I have posted or really been on here at all. In fact I was getting pretty burned out with the hobby all together. I love my biocube but I couldn't keep the parameters in check. It would get hot in the day, cold at night, corals would come and go, and running out of RO water seemed to happen a bit, plus with work, I would have trouble with water changes. The biocube was great but hopefully a larger tank will be easier to maintain.

The tank is in but I haven't picked it up yet. Hopefully over the weekend that will happen. I went with the Cadlights Artisan 50g cube with the sump it comes with. I upgraded the skimmer to a Tunze 9410. Right now I have 1 MP10W but will be adding a second before the livestock. Lighting will be an AI Hydra 26 and I will have 40-50 lb of Fiji Pink live sand and I have 90lb of rock to work with and I will use about 65lb of it.

Hopefully I'll be able to get some pictures up once everything is here and in the process of getting set up. I have a fish list saved and if I recall it all its a pair of clowns, a yellow assessors basslet, flame angel, mystery wrasse, McCosker's Flasher Wrasse, and most likely a mandarin. I think that would be plenty of fish for the tank.

Once it's all set up in just hope things go better with this one than the biocube. Can't wait to post pictures as it all evolves!

I always liked the look of the Cadlights tanks and the packages they sell that include the sump, return pumps, etc are a great value. What color cabinet did you end up going with? Would be interested to hear a review about the system and your feedback regarding quality of the tank, stand, etc.

Do you already have the AI Hydra 26 or will you be purchasing one of the new HD versions?

I like the fish you have picked out, not a ton of bioload and a nice mix of colors. They should look really nice in that tank.

I already have the Hydra. I actually purchased itnaway while back so unfortunately it's not the HD version but that can always come with time :-) lol. I went with the black stand as the tank will be located in my room for now and my furniture is black or cherry so it will go nicely. I'll definitely give feedback. Already one concern I have is where ill.be keeping everything like my test kits, food and dosing supplies as those are now in the biocube cabinet but hopefully that's an easy solution.

Very nice Anthony. 50gallons is a great size. Room for corals and decent fish stock.

Good Luck with the new tank. Definitely attach some pictures, so that we can all see what your doing... Start a blog as well and update it through your build process.

When you do start to take some pictures, post a few of the under cabinet with the sump, skimmer etc installed and we can try and help with some ideas for storing your supplies.

I looked hard and really liked the Cadlights setup, I ended up with a smaller display and bigger sump plumbed to the basement. Great luck with the new tank.

I got one of the 50g cadlights and I really like it. There's enough space to get a decent aquascape and enough space for fish to swim around. I just bought the tank from them and have a homemade stand due to when I bought mine, there were still selling very cheap made stand that didn't hold well(that was maybe 3 years ago I think) and also because I wanted a 40g breeder as a sump.

I had heard that about the stands. From what I understand they had made some improvements on the most recent models.

Finally able to get everything plumbed, rockwork done, sand done, tank filled, ato hooked up, and skimmer running without the cup just for the airation. Light is hooked up but need to tune it and set up the controller. I will need to tune the skimmer as the pump breaks in. Temp is holding between 77 and 77.5. Mp10 is on but still need to figure that out as well. I'm using pure ammonia to cycle and started that tonight with the tank running since yesterday. Hoping that using the nutrisea water and live sand that will be enough bacteria to maintain it. Trying to post pictures tonight if I can figure it out.

what type of amonnia are you using ? amonium Chloride is what I used I think . bought it for aquarium use .

I got it from my LFS. He just put some in a bag for me and I'm just adding it slowly to get it up high enough
