Fish mix research attempt #1

While at Whole Foods today we decided to pick up a few sea food items to test and see what Macro and Damien like.

The massive purchase was ONE Little Neck (49 cents) and 0.06 lbs of squid tentacles at a whooping 42 cents. Definitely got some strange looks when I asked for a single tentacle and clam, then again while checking out. The first scale could not register the weight of the squid:D.

Didn't forget about the veggies, being good parents and all. We picked the fishys a small head of broccoli. We heard that fish like to eat the little balls at the tips.

Should we have bought squid tube instead of squid tentacle:confused:?

The Little Neck and squid tentacle have been chopped into approximately mysis shrimp sized pieces and frozen. Tomorrow I am going to see if the fish are interested it the new foods. Hopefully they like it, boy o boy that would be such a huge waste of money if they did not eat it.:p

Also bought one habanero, not for the fishys, I'll be finding out how hot that is tomorrow:eek:. Thought the fish should not be the only ones to try something new.

Don't forget the garlic!

what kinds of fish?

if the tentacles are chopped very fine, i think both fish will try to swallow it.
the clam will be well received.

WOOT looks like I didn't blow 42 cents on tentacles. Is mysis shrimp sized chopped tentacle fine enough?

Thanks Moe

Trial and error might be the best way to see if the pieces are small enough.

Your story reminded me of the first time I cycled a tank and bought 2 at the local supermarket.I even got a comment"not too hungry for shrimp today....huh?".lol

Hehe I too get really odd looks when I ask for "3 shrimp please." "You mean 3 pounds?" "No, just 3."

And for the garlic, I bought some pre-minced in a jar that I keep in the fridge. When I make the food I just scoop a small amount out and chop it up just a little more fine and mix it in.

This might sound alittle wierd, but I've found my fish to love eating corn.
I take the little pieces of corn and then peel the thin layer of skin off of them and then chop them up into tiny tiny little bits and feed them to my fish. The tangs go crazy for it.

Marco and Damien were a little confused by the clam and squid. A few bites were taken. Going to chop it up even smaller for the next round, maybe they will like that better.

Interesting...

Frozen, fresh, or dried?

Does the corn come out the same way it goes in? :D

Peeling the skin off of corn kernels......we're all just a little psycho in this hobby, aren't we?

corn can kill fish, yes they love it but most fish can NOT pass the corn with the skin on. So taking the skin off has possibly saved ur fish. I have no source for this except for my freshwater fishing experiences. After catching some fish and opening them and seeing a belly full of corn kinda makes u sad.

:D It's no different then peeling a piece of garlic. Anyways, when I get down to prep my fish food once a month I dont fool around, my kitchen turns into something simular to iron chef america. They probably eat better then me :o
