Frag grow out section in sump?

dedfish

That's Mr.Murphy to you!
Does anyone have a frag grow out section in your sump? Any pictures? Advice?

I am replacing my 29gal sump with a 40B sump and would like to include a section to grow frags out. I have a spare 150W mh ballast that I could use to light it with, or maybe just get some small T5 fixtures.

Thanks,
Jason

I tried it once a while back, but couldn't get the flow right. If I had it where the frags wanted it to be, I got a lot of micro bubbles finding their way to the display. If I set it too low, the frags got really p*ssed off.

Haven't found the balance yet, so I'm interested in hearing how anyone has made it work.

Well...right now I have a very low flow sump. It's a 29gal and my return pump probably pushes about 400gph with the head. I have zero issues with microbubbles atm. I'm upgrading to a 40breeder. My thinking right now is a semi shallow frag tray within the refuge area of a typical skimmer->refuge->return style sump. The tray would be maybe 6" wide and have a small powerhead mounted to to it pushing water back toward the skimmer section. I think that the microbubbles wouldn't be a problem and in a small frag tray, say 6" wide by 6" deep and 12" long. I'm gonna try to draw something up to make my idea more clear.
