How long do zoas take to reopen after fragging them and remounting to another rock?

If you razor them off the main colony and glued to a frag rock, sometimes it can take a few days to week to open back up. If they grow from the main colony to a frag rock and you pull them off, mine usually opens right away once they are undisturbed.

Thanks Andy. They were peeled (pretty intact) off a rock, and glued to another rock. We'll see how long that takes.

As long as you didn't squish them it shouldn't be that long...

umm, define "squish". most of them I peeled off in groups and cut the connecting tissue. A couple came of in smaller groups and oozed a bit from the bottom of the polyp. Are those not going to be happy? Or is it just a matter of waiting a few more days for them to open?

I've purposely tried to squish, peel, and tear to kill zoas and it's damn near impossible. Give em a day or two and I think they'll be fine.

Yeah, when they ooze that's my definition of "squish". I have beat the crap out of some zoa's and they alway's seem to come back...

Ted, let me know how they open up for you, ok? Of course I'll provide you with more squished zoas if some of those fail to recover (but I don't expect problems with your patch, since it was entirely peeled off).

zoas are pretty rugged. I've seen them exposed at low tides and get all scaly looking and still look fine when under water once again.

I've peeled, chiseled, scraped, and even burn zoas off of some LR that I was putting into the sump. Guess what.... they are back. Can't kill the frikin' things!
