Glass Hole Saw Maintenance and Size for Bulkheads

I'm about to drill a tank for the first time in 9 years. I have some hole saws I used last time, one I used once for a 1" bulkhead, and one I used four times for 3/4" bulkhead holes.

I seem to recall that glass hole saws are only good for about five applications. Is this still correct? I haven't stored them specially since then.

Second, I just wanted to confirm my hole saws are the right sizes. What sizes do you need for 1/2", 3/4", and 1" threaded bulkheads?

I always use the bulk reef supply website to check the sizes, just look up whatever bulkheads you have and they will have the measurements listed. Remember that Sch80 use slightly larger sized holes than ABS bulkheads (ABS are black plastic, Sch80 are more heavy duty and a dark grey color). Off the top of my head, 1" ABS bukheads fit a 1 7/8" hole. I can check the others for you when I get home if you don't confirm the sizes sooner...

On the holesaws, there are cheaper and not so cheap ones. I have drilled at least 20 holes with a more expensive 1 7/8" bit and it's still working but goes takes a little longer than when it was new. The cheapo ones probably have a shorter lifespan, but I'm pretty sure it's more than 5 holes. As long as the grinding surface is still somewhat textured they should be fine. As always, go slow and use lots of water to keep things cool.
