green tree help

I have a green tree that isn't looking hot. Some of the base/stalk of it got buried in sand by my jaw fish, and now it's got some brownish algae type growth on it (doesn't look like brown slime). I had thought about fragging it, but wonder if I could just take the toothbrush I use to clean the back glass and gently try to rub the stuff off.

The coral definitely does not look happy right now.

Any ideas would be great.

Thanks, and happy holidays!! :)

Dip it in toilet water. It should live through anything! :D

I have plenty of Green Tree if you need some Laurie.

You're funny. I think I'll spare it the toilet. Perhaps I'll hit it with the toothbrush and give it a quickie fresh water bath.

Thanks Ray! :)

Ive had leathers will slough off some skin to rid themselves of algea. Give it a day or two. leathers are funny like that...one day they look awesome and the next youre asking yourself what you did-

whatever you decide, be gentle because if the brushs' bristles tear the flesh it might not be good either. maybe try and take a wet paper towel and wipe it off instead.

Hi Nicky, Be carefull that it is not "brown Jelly" Horrible stuff. Others might say it only affects LPS but I had a green tree and a toadstool get destroyed by brown jelly in a couple of days. Do not let this stuff blow around the tank it will infect everything.

There is a good chance it is not "brown jelly" Give it a day, if the brown stuff progresses rapidly then it may be brown jelly. If it does progress Google brown jelly, post here or PM me. Brown jelly is nothing to mess around with so I really hope thats not what it is.

If you think it might be brown jelly or any other type of fungus, you can try dipping it in some iodine for a few minutes. Swish it around in the dip to see if any falls off. It should be gone in short time after the dip if that's what it is.

def. not brown jelly. It's actually algae that grew. I tried cleaning it off, and the part that was attached to the rock didn't look all that happy, so I ended up fragging it.

We'll see how it looks in a couple days. Hopefully I didn't just kill it!
