Hippo Tang Question

I have a very healthy hippo tang about 1.5" with no signs of HLLE or any illness. Last night I turned the lights on about 30 minutes after they had been out and when he came out of his sleeping place his black stripe was completely clear. I could see through the fish and see it's brain. It colored back up in a couple of minutes but could somebody explain what happened and why this happens?

Some times fish just lose their color during the night time, when the lights are off. My shrimp too lose all their color during the night.

Yea, that sounds like an extreme case of

"WHAT, you just scared the heck out of me! the sun just came up at 2AM, AHHHHH"

coloration.

Glad to hear he's doing well, then. I just put a new one in my 75 gal and he's much happier than the one I gave you which was in my 30. Yeah, my yellow tang has some funky coloring in the mornings too. He's really happy during the day and swimming happily around.
