How did everyone make out with the storm?

Hi Folks

Well - we survived the power outage in the Leominster area.
36 hours.

Used a 1500 watt inverter and ran a car at 2000 RPM for the duration of the outage.

Keep the tank (no lights) running as well as our pellet stove. Time for a generator I think.

How did you folks make out? Any disasters?
I hear still many without power.

I was prepared with two generators this time after 6 days without power because of Irene. Of course, we only got a dusting of snow and a mild wind. Weather in southern RI is usually pretty boring. I'll probably never need generators again.

What storm, I got about 3-4" of wet slushy snow, sat home in my nice warm apartment and drank ice cold beer...

i didnt lose power in my area but, i decided to do a road trip to i90 west towards springfield......huge tree fell on 90 west causing a semi to hit the brakes and i hit the breaks and rear ended the semi...............wasnt too bad though as we were traveling about 20mph......this is what happened to my car...

lost power at 8pm sat night and it just came back on 20 min ago! No problems with the reef though I have a whole house genny :)

You should try some snow tires, you would have been able to stop. :)

Lost power 9pm Saturday, still without! Street just got plowed this evening, lines down everywhere.
Luckily we primarily heat with wood. Used a 300w inverter on and off through Sunday for flow.
2nd inline this morning at an equipment specialty store and scored a sweet Honda 4000w generator! Watching TV, washed laundry (well), tank is 90% up (Halides staying off due to draw) all with lights on.

Lost power Saturday night at 11. Still without power. Well assisted with a genny...

No power since midnight sat. Tank at 70 degrees as of 7 tonight. Fish barely hanging on.....Nothing that I can do, no genny. Been filling up ziploc bags with hot water as often as possible. Had to leave the house with my 2 kids. This is the worst I feel so helpless

Lost power at 8pm Saturday night, the latest estimate to get it back is Nov 3rd. Hard to swallow when 5-10 houses down the street, they have power. Have gone through a lot of gas in the generator already, glad I have it though!

i have all season tires...not even 2 months old...........................and my car has abs.......and a good distance..but the car just slid since road was icy.........

Lost power at 7:30pm Saturday night. Just came back on about 10:00pm Monday. DIY battery back-up for MP40 worked flawlessly. Ran for 26 hours on 12v, 18amp hour battery. Went and bought a $49 Walmart car battery, that ran for another 24 hours and the 12 LED display on the Eco-Smart driver was still all the way to the right (full). It would probably run a week on a car battery. Gonna charge up the car battery and hold on to incase we have another ice storm this year. I heated my house to 79° with my stove set at 150° and the door cracked open an inch. It would cycle on every half hour for 10 minutes. Not concerned about carbon monoxide, we run our stove on Thanksgiving day at 350° for four or five hours straight but I did show some caution and opened the windows every few hours to air it out.

my whole house generator ran everything I needed for 44 hours, but it cost me $200 in propane. Wood stove kept the house toasty, but the furnace could have come on if turned on.

Power came back at 330 am this morning. Portable genny kept us warm and the the tank is fine...

my tank got down to 60 degrees... nothing i could do felt awful, but only losses were a starfish, galaxea and a snail so far. Everything else looks to be ok, I think the power came back on just in time, nothing looked like it was going to make it. Im just thankful everything (just about) made it through that. After this I am definitely buying a generator when everybody gets them back in stock.

Lost power for eight hours then borrowed my Dad's generator because the tank was down to 72. The power came back on 10 minutes later.

I lost power just for a couple of hours. the temperature dropped about 4-5 degree (Fahrenheit) but everything was okay though.

update on my tank with no power for 48 hours lost 2 damsels which was all i had and ACjr said 51 degrees WOW!!!!!

Lost power at 9:45am on Sunday...on the way out the door for my son's 1st birthday party (at the in-laws). I threw some battery powered air bubblers in the tanks and left. Came home at 5pm, still no power but couldn't get ahold of a generator or anything else useful. Draped tank in blankets and tried to sleep. Woke up to an ice-cold house and assumed everything would be dead, but everything seemed ok...but still no power. Got ahold of a 6500w generator (rental from HD in Attleboro) and hooked it up at 5pm Monday. AC said 64 degrees so tank held temp a lot better than I would have imagined (thermostats in house reported low 50s) and everything seems to have made it so far. A few corals were out of the water for that entire time (31 hours!) but even those haven't seemed worse for wear yet.

Power came back at 11:30pm Monday...tank got back to temp tonight, a nice slow but steady crawl up. Keeping my fingers crossed but so far so good. Sounds like I'm not the only one to have this experience.

I would never have believed our tanks could withstand this type of scenario as well as they seem to do -- aren't our systems supposed to be incredibly fragile?? Wow. Just shocking (in a good way). Definitely getting a whole house generator when I switch over to gas later this month!

Good luck to everyone else!

I wonder if we could come up with a list of members who have portable generators for future events...if you have one and don't need it? I know that is a risky proposition so maybe not something folks would want to offer, but I would have been forever grateful for a generator that first day...
