How long do fish live?

I know it probably varies by species, but I've noticed declining color in one of my tangs that's been around the tank for 6 or so years.
His colors have been fading, so over the past 2 weeks I've gotten my tank back into a more optimal condition but considering he's prolly 7-10 years old I reluctantly wonder if it might be something more natural. Anyone know how long purple tangs live?

Mark I know it is somewhere here but can't find it: I thought it was around 10 years in good cond for avg.

I have a few fish that have been with me for many years:
Tomato clown that is going on 15 years.
Yellow Watchman Goby 15 years.
Black/White Damsel since my first tank cycle 17 years.

Man am I getting old....

Hmm, maybe it's my tank temp. This time of year it's typically at it's coldest and at lights on it's at 72 deg.

Has his activity changed at all?

Behavior has been normal for the most part. Eating and acting normal. His colors seem to be improving. Maybe he just had a fish cold.
