Reefer In Training
I noticed that some of my LR has some kind of red algae or is it red tide? I've looked all over youtube and I'm kinda losing Internet service please help?

Red tide? Isnt' that a free floating dinoflagellate thing? I've never heard the term used in reefkeeping?

What does it look like? Slime, mat, hair, stringy, leafy, bubbly?

I've read a bit about red tide in tanks, and there seems to be very little information on why it happens. It also seems to nuke people's tanks. I doubt you have red tide since it seems very rare. You may just have some kind of cyano or dino's.

to tell you the truth it looks like a form of coraline? but its red ish? I tried getting info online and there's not much ? I found on youtube that they have done test on beach's where red tide has been found but nothing on how red tie effects LR or reef tanks?

Whats ''cyano/dino''? I never heard of that?

Is it hard? There are lots of different kinds of coraline.

Cyano = cyanobacteria, the very common velvety mat like nisiance algae (actually bacteria, but for all intensive purposes it acts just like an algae), it is usually red/maroon but sometimes other colors as well.
Dinos = dinoflagellates, there are many many kinds of dinoflagellates, some very problematic in the aquarium, some pretty much never seen in the aquarium.

nope! I'm starting to feel like a freak accident :( I looks like reg. purple Coraline algae but its red and it doesn't spread around in a group like reg. purple coraline algae does. Its more like spots of red Coraline its growing pretty quick on a few peace's that are located 5'' from the top of the tank so its getting lots of light .

I'm going to ask my buddy to let me use he's camera so I can take a better shoot of it. My camera a month ago my gf is still not happy about it

Sounds like it is red coralline. Not unusual at all.

Is that a good or bad thing ? because I took out four soft ball size LR that looked like it was cover'd in some kind of red coraline algae I thought it was red tide? they where from my refugium where I have my left over LR and some from my DT . Ill snap some pictures later on tomorrow.

If it's hard, red and looks like coraline, it probably is and coraline is good.
