I heard that there was a dry rock group buy long time ago. Is there any chance for another one? Thanks

I'm don't need any right now, but just fyi I saw some people on anther board order some of this rock:

And have heard that they were very happy, and the prices seem very very cheap, it seems all the shipping is included in all the prices. I personally haven't had experience with it, but have heard great things about it. Someday when I set up another tank I plan I doing it with this as base. :)

There's a club sponsor, Fishy Business, that sells dried premium live rock. I've heard many members rave about it. You might contact him if you're interested in a group order, or even if individuals just want some.

And yes, sdexcaliber, dry rock is live rock that has washed up on shore, dried out, and been collected. It has no biofiltering capacity until it is seeded over time by live rock in the same system.

Don't even think twice. Drive to the Marc's and get the dry rock. no question. Here is a pic after a couple of months. notice the ziptie holding the rocks together. the rock is so porus you can find a hole for a ziptie almost anywhere. Super great for pod breeding for your fish.

two questions:

1. Long distance drive. If every one drive down to cape, that is a lot of gas burned.

2. Can the price better than $2.25 /lb if there is a group buy?

I have seen and own some Marc's dry rock for $2.25/lb. I also bought some dry rock that someone got from a group buy for $0.80/lb. The difference is not that big.

the opinion is in the eye of the beholder..... but I may argue the size of the difference :)

I think you got a point there. Lighter rocks do make a difference.

By the way, a group buy of Marco's rock will save some money at least on gas.

I have some rock that someone gave me that came from him and it is really nice rock, I have it in my display tank

$.80 per lb sounds like it can't be right. I don't think I would bring rock from my front yard to a meeting for 80 cents a lb. :)

I am not expecting $0.80/lb from Marco's rock.

Any saving will help.

Hey thanks for all the complements everyone.
I'm open to talking about a group buy, but I'll be straight.....it won't be .80/lb :D (keep in mind that in the last 8 months the cost of freight has almost tripled, I doubt I can ship and truck rock for .80/lb  )

Where are you shipping it from? If you actually get to choose who you ship with, let me know and maybe my company could give you a quote. We do LTL in alot of places. :)

When do you plan on ordering, This is the first potential group buy. So I don't know how long these things take. I know you have to price shop, then collect money. I'm not that far away from Marc's if the order goes their. Depending on price I'm looking for 40-50 lbs.

Marco's dry rock is very light. 40-50 pounds of this is a lot of rock. We checked a few pieces that we won at the cook-out (member dunking) meeting last summer, it is about 1/2 that of the typical live rock you will see in the stores. In six months, mixed in, it looks just like the rest of the rock.

PLaces I go never have (had) dry rock. I only have about 30 lbs in my 75, wanna work to a mardrin but I have a long way to go
