Liquid tight connectors, PH probe and a Calcium Reactor

Leroy

I'm looking for a thread about a DIY project where I can drill and insert a liquid tight connector into the top of a calcium reactor to insert a PH probe. Or the link for the connector.

I always find these threads a year ago and never think to copy and paste the procedure into a Word doc until I decide to do it a year later. My bookmarks on DIY are over 500, next time 501 and the document to boot.

Hey Leroy,

Here's the easy off the shelf solution.

Get a 1/2" john guest fitting from HD. These work perfectly, BUT they have a little lip inside to stop the tubing (that you would usually would use with them) from going in too far. Carefully drill that lip out with a 1/2" drill (it must be lined up perfectly, or just use one size larger drill.) being careful not to go too far and nick the O-ring. From there, just drill and tap the lid of the reactor for the threads on the john guest fitting, and install it.

The other option is to use a plastic compression fitting and install it the same way but you won't need to do any mods to it. I know mcmaster has the part, but I don't recall where to find it on their website. (you could check with Jim Tansey, he knows).

There was also a thread in the RC DIY forum a couple/few months back that marc levenson started (meleves reef). I'll post the link if I can find it.

Hey Jimmy,
Thanks for the tip, I know I could mod the 1/2 john guest fitting now you've done a bang up job on how it's done. I'll browse the saved link I have Mcmaster Carr, a handymans/DIY bible.

Ah ha RC DIY forum, Marcs post.....that's it.....duh, I should have known better. OK this is where my foot kicks self in butt.

Thank you again
