Does anyone know of any local stores around the Northern RI/ Southern MA area that carries Dow and Mag flake? And when im in the store what department should they be in? Im not even sure what their original use is for :o

Good luck, it is a deicing product so it is normally only available if you can find it in the winter time. If you can't find it, you can always order from 2part solutions or I think maybe bulk reef suply as well.

Thanks, just ordered from reef bulk supply. They got what looks like a pretty good deal, for $60 you get the following;

● One Gallon (7 pounds) of High Purity Anhydrous Calcium Chloride
● One Gallon( 7 pounds) of High Purity Zero Ammonia Magnesium Chloride
● One Gallon (7 pounds) of High purity Soda ash (Sodium Carbonate)
● One Gallon (8 pounds) of High Purity Magnesium Sulfate
● Three One gallon Jugs
● Two one once dispensers for the Jugs and one cap
● Two 100ml measuring cups

I dont usually like ordering anything online but I couldn't pass up on that deal.

Sodium Carbonate and Magnesium sulfate can be bought at the grocery store and pharmacy really cheap as baking soda (baked to get sodium carbonate and not bicarbonate) and Epsom Salts.

If you can find Dow Flake and Mag Flake in the winter time, they are normally about $20 each for a 50# bag. When winter time rolls around, you can decide if you want to save a ton of cash but risk contamination of a product not intended for aquarium use. Maybe by then people will have a better idea of the effects of elevated bromide levels in aquaria as well.

I just got a DI canister complete with the resin installed and I bought a spare bag also from bulkreef.I was very impressed with them,and posted in the vendor experience forum.
