Mounting SPS

Reefing ain't Easy
I just purchased a great looking acro from a BRS member. What is the best way to mount this?? Excuse the newbie question, I have only added mounted corals before.

I've always just glued the frag to a piece of rubble or a plug using super-glue gel. Let it harden up a bit and then place the frag where ever you want it. If it won't stay in place you can just use the super glue gel again to attach it to your rockwork.

There are some pretty good articles on this in the reefcentral mag. Basically all that is really required is some adhesive and something to mount it on, a piece of live rock rubble is what I usually use, though disks etc. may be more convenient. Super glue gel (not the runny liquid) works fine. Dry the base of the frag and the rock/disk with a paper towel, apply enough superglue to the rock to secure it, hold the two together for a minute or so and return to the tank. Don't go overboard with the glue, the frag has to encrust over the glue and the tissue that is covered in glue will die (unavoidable). Just use as much as is necessary. The glue cures almost instantly when it touches water, but I don't think the bond is as strong as when its allowed to dry in the air for a minute first before dunking. Larger pieces/colonies may require more elaborate strategies, but this method has worked for me for 1-2" frags.

Oh, and really think about placement before you do it, one of the biggest problems I have in my tank is making my corals stay put! If you use uneven LR, make sure it fits where you want it :). I agree with sledge.

Thanks,. I superglued it to a small piece of LR that happen to be placed where I wanted the coral to go. It is holding so far directly in the koralia flow so it looks pretty secure!! It is a big peice maybe 3-4". Looks nice though. My first SPS. Thanks again!!

i use boston aqua farms purple glue or gel. i also spray the glue excelerator on it. this hardens the glue instantly. use it on a plug or disc
