Give it time. Mine has tunnels covering probably about 1/3 - 1/2 of my 120. He could teach the viet cong a thing or two about tunnels.

He does have one main entrance where he can be seen peeking out most of the time when the lights are out. You usually just see his face peeking out, but when food comes floating by he's like a little rocket shooting out up to a foot, then right back into the tunnel in about a second.

Right now (night) he's hiding in a tunnel that comes up to the front glass so I can see him looking back at me.

I would love a blue spotted, but it would mess with my coral placement and we cant have that now can we? LOL
Nice grab! keep the pics flowing!

ok... fishes colors get pailer when the lights go out right? because i was looking in the tank with a flashlight like to do every so often and i see the jaw fish..... looks like crap.... maybe im just paranoid... but see for your self...
here is a pic from when i was trying to coax him in to the house i made ( http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=172053&st=140&#entry2525673 )

We just picked one up this week also. They sure are pretty!

I stuck a piece of 1" PVC in the sand at about a 45 degree angle. Then I used a turkey baster to suck most of the sand out. Once that was done I picked up the Blue Spot out of the bucket and closed it around him so he wouldn't flop out. Then I opened my hand a little right above the hole I made and the little bugger when right and and cleared the remaining sand out. The only thing I could have done better was put an PVC cap on the bottom of the artificial home I made him. He kept clearing the sand and it kept falling down. I put a few pieces of rubble down there and that stopped the problem.

serpent stars

would one have to worry about a serpent star sneaking up on him at night and making him a meal? (provided you have one in your tank?)

yes, i would be worried about anything that small though, such as gobies. i have heard that only the green ones ever present that sort of a problem.

I wouldnt' worry about the jaw fish so much though since it would probably be in a tunnel.

well i brought it back... but now im rely pissed off.... i spend $95 total with tax on that fish.... and on the store credit they only gave me 89$ in credit..(calling them tomorrow on that i think it was just a mix up and they didn't put my sales tax on there.)
but what pisses me off is that i can only spend that $89 credit on fish... nothing els no dry goods no coral... nothing just fish.... and my 34g tank already has 3 fish... so i only have room for 2 more max..... just seems like i should be able to get what ever in the whole store....

That sounds like they refunded you the pre tax price. If you buy another fish you shouldn't be charged tax again.

Wait a shippment or several, then go back and get another BSJF. Super cool fish, but that one was not healthy :)

Mine's doing great after a year, and I got it from the same place.

yea i might... im not sure yet...

So I purchased the same breed of fish 2 weeks ago from Jays... He is amazing and so alert. I was wondering for all of those who had one or have one... What do you feed him/her and how much? As I am fighting nitrates I learned from this forum that I am likely an overfeeder. So I have reduced my feeding and I swear my goby is looking thin? But hard to tell with that body shape? Any specifics on how much a goby should eat would be appreciated.

I feed under one cube every other day (Monday brine shrimp / Wed forumula 1 / Friday formula 2........)

I have 2 percula clowns / 1 blue spot goby / 1 mandarin / 25 snails / 15 hermits. I think I need to feed more? The goby gets a few mouthfulls for sure... but I think he wants more?

thanks!

Corey, sorry about your Goby.. I posted before I realised this thread had two pages.. didn't know that you ended up taking him back.

I am going to look at mine tonight and see if he loses his color.. I am pretty sure mine does not.. he is looking thin as I said before but the color seems to remain constant.

nice tank!

in the first pictures it looked healthy. how long did you take acclimating the jawfish?

i acclimated him for 45min. 30 min of drip acclimation and 15 min of floating just to make sure the temperatures are the same

Sorry to read about your fish Cory, they are beautiful, it's easy to see why people are so attracted to them.
