My Next Project -10g Nano-

Doherty

Non-member
This is going to be my next project I will be starting in the next month or so.
It is going to be a 10g aga main display with a 5.5g aga fuge.
Here are a few pics to scale on how it should look when it is finished.
There are going to be some changes on the layout I'm sure,
but here is the start. I wanted the main display to have a clean look
with no equipment visible other than a power head for extra flow.
It is going to mainly consist of softies and some lower light LPS,
the usual CUC, and fish to be determined later (any suggestions)
, Also LR and was going to go with grey coast sand.

In my fuge the first chamber will house the HOB skimmer intake as well at the heater, for now each section will be separated with egg-crate.

Middle chamber will hold some rubble rock, LS, and some macro algae.

Last section will have my return pump, was hoping you guys can suggest a brand/gph flow for this setup.

Also not really sure on the bulkhead size and placement. Suggestions on the plumbing are certainly welcome.

If you guys could give me some Positive and negative feedback on the layout that would be great.

TIA

Hope you guys are able to see the pictures!

Actually it is google SketchUp, it was a free download. It is the same setup. It is very cool

Looks good, but please tell me that's not a Red Sea Prism skimmer down in that fuge.
If so...........please delete it.lol
Also,I'm sure you'll build the stand a little differently.
Should keep the 4 legs/uprights all one piece and put jack studs on the inside to support the shelve/top.

Bob, my friend you are right it is a red sea crap skimmer LOL. I plan on replacing it with a different HOB before I actually get the project going. I am looking on the boards for a replacement. That is what I have in my basement and just placed it in the pic for a visual image of the layout, and I got carried away with the drawing. There are defanately going to be changes to the stand.

Cool,

Look around for an Aqua C Remora.
Every once in a while one comes up in the equipment 4 sale area.

I have a 1" inch bulkhead in both a 10 and a 20 L.
Probably go with a 1" drain and a 3/4 return.
I'd look into a 20L for the display and a 10 gallon for the sump.
The 20 L makes a nice size nano and the extra water volume will make things a little easier.
You're going to notice a lot of evaporation during the winter months. So the sump will lose water volume pretty quickly.
As for a pump you'll need something that pushes at least 5-10 times the water volume of the display at whatever head distance you'll have(maybe 3 feet).
I've heard many good things about the Ehiem hobby pump for this type of application.

I have been keeping my eye for one, the remora is actually one I was hoping would come come up on the boards.

Thanks Bob I will look into the Ehiem pump

Just be careful with your bulkheads and drilling because the glass on a 10g as super thin. I had 2 of them crack that had 1" bulkhead drilled in the bottom. I would suggest using soft tubing as much as you can to absorb any vibrations/reduce weight.

Yeah I plan to use soft tubing, with the thin glass it does not have much give before it will crack. I have a junk 10g in my basement i plan to practice with the drilling before i do it on my new 10g.

its going 2 look nice cool setup
