Sounds like you're rounding the corner. Good work saving what was still viable. I'm sure you're exaughsted, and not too keen on reefing right now, but brighter things are ahead, with any luck. You'll be back on top in no time.

thank you Nate. That's very true, i'm exhausted! but if i can save the pieces i moved to the other system will be worth it. these are corals that did not come from my own tank, mostly from exoticreefs and I don't have a parent or backup frag. they look pretty bad but there's a chance they'll make it. I looked for polyfilter at skiptons but they ran out of it. i'll keep running carbon.

Still don't know what caused the crash, which makes me nervous. I can't think of anything else other than the "sparkly heater". I am thinking if the current / fire / sparks could have drastically affected the pH in any way.

What brand of heater caused the fire and how old was the heater ?

Chuck it's a Won-pro heat 350W, it was less than 6 months old.

I think that burning plastics give off all kinds of toxins and carcinogens.....maybe that is what caused the crash?

The fire certainly sounds like an obvious candidate for the crash.

That's very frightening that a 6 month old heater would light up like that. were you aware of any cuts or damage to the probe?

I wouldn't think that they'd use line current into the probe, but it sounds like they did. Crazy.
