here is my first top down shot ive taken... clearly not a good pic, but shows a little more of how my purple hornets are establishing themselves... im very pleased, as there are now over a dozen... they are looking very defined, and the skirt tips are starting to sharpin up like my red hornets have done... these are two of my favorites, not becuz they are so popular, and their "value", but becuase they are so bold colored and sharp and cleanly lined... and the jus look real good imo...

these purples are really growing on me...

clearly i need to get that coral viewing box, which will be in next week... the darn reflection, lol... like i said, not a good pic, but shows the zoa somewhat decent, from a new angle im not used to seeing...

i also had received my latest order from cultivated reef this past week... my xmen palys, and superman monti (encrusting) look very good imo... the superman is bleached a bit, but im confidant it will be fine...

unfortunately i lost the tyree red watermelon, but was assured it would be replaced on my next order... which is awesome... im gonna be sure to pickup early in west boyleston... and i plan to order some tyree pink elephant palys, cuz they really catch my eye...

so again, impleased... was a bit bummed for everyone involved that the chalice took a bad turn, but like a good guy, greg said if i paid for shipping, he will send another... so i might as well grab something else i like at the same time :)

jus an update ;)

some new pics...

and another video of my ORA red planet acro, and my two purple tangs...

i have lost a couple corals, given up on a couple, and others have done great... currently having stability issues with alk and cal... next addition will be a calcium reactor, but it wont be very soon, most likely i month or two...

have a couple new additions coming on friday, some tyree pink elephant palys and another tyree red watermelon/alien eye from Cultivated Reef :)

Amazing growth. Love the tank. Do you dose anything? What kind of tiles do you use?

Hey Brian...(I think I got that right?) ... lol anyways, I guess I didn't mention it here yet... I only use bulk reef 2 part in my system, and its worked well for me... I'm sure there is other 2 parts that work well too, but if it isn't broke, don't fix it :)

And at the risk of some ridicule, I don't ever plan on using a reactor regardless of the price the two part gets too... however its not that costly at all... I jus beleive simpler is better and I don't wana deal with a reactor, its tuning and many parts involved, and all the extra things to plug in... manual dosing gives me peace of mind too, and keeps me more involved, which I really like, cuz I am all about hands on... I automate nothing but my lights which are in that sense, on a timer...

Never say never :)

Reactors are not hard to set up IMO as long as you use a pH controller. This gives you a bit more peace of mind and and makes it a little more fail safe. Set up becomes a ton easier as well.

lol, i know... i say alot of things that end up with foot in mouth... but whatever, i learn as i go, especially with these sps... i thought i could get away with it, but like the other 98% of the time, i am wrong ;)

my biggest mistake was going smaller with water volume... but i will fix that, and i will get a reactor setup as one of my next additions as soon as it financially permits... thinken i will add a cryptic fuge, since i have room under my stand, to add some extra water volume... as well as a larger sump... the sump will be a deep blue NON RR 60g, 4' x 2' x 13 tall... so hopefully between the two, i will add about 40 to 45 gallons of water volume... i am also trying to completely clear my frag racks to help with absorption rates...

i dose 2 drops of lugol's daily... 20mL's of brightwell's potassium weekly... and both two part cal and alk daily... and i also dose a fair amount of magnesium each week... i use IO salt, and do a 5g change weekly... i keep my salinity at 1.026...

the tiles are from home depot and are 4x4" natural tumbled rock... Chairo i believe it is called... could be wrong...

and thank you :)

What is the lugol and potassium for? Thanks for the advise on the tiles.

lugol's is an iodine/iodide supplement... and potassium is jus that, potassium... both are essential elements, which also help with sps health and color potential... dont ever dose either of these blindly... and the lugol's is to be used SPARINGLY... not something you wana overdose... research is important when considering either of these supplements...
