Other pump options for reef devil skimmers?

Are there any other pump options besides the mag drives for the reef devil downdraft skimmers that are submersible? I'm using a mag7, but I think the way I have it setup its not getting enough flow to the skimmer. I don't feel like using a mag 9.5 with 90w when there are more efficient pumps, but would they work?

Chris

Does anyone have a mag 9.5 that I could borrow for a week before buying one to see if it'll improve the skimming?

Hey Chris, I've got a Sen900 you can borrow, I'd need to steal that mag7 while you had it though, its a little on the loud side, although that may just be because my plumbing is a mess, and is vibrating off the sump. Its more powerful than a mag9.5, runs at around the same power. let me know.

chris whats going on that pump should work fine. I don't think you will have enough contact time with the bio balls if you raise the flow you do have the bio balls in it ?.

my skimmer is raised about 2' above the pump because it has to drain into my sump. I'm thinking the head pressure might be cutting down on the flow of the mag 7 too much? Is that possible? Didn't you have a mag 9.5 running on your reef devil?

Chris

no both my reef devil's run on mag 7's.I don't think being raised up that little will make a difference.I had the mag 9 on the mrc beckett skimmer(noisey piece of crap):D
