Over the top return plumbing

Can anybody provide input or ideally some photos of how they plumbed their over the top return. I am trying to figure out how to plumb it in such a way that it's weight isn't supported solely by hanging on the back of the tank. I would like to use flexible tubing if possible but also need to have a gate valve as part of the return as this will be part of a herbie. Any and all advice would be appreciated. TIA, Mike.
