anyone ever paint the trim of a tank, looking for suggestions on paint type and any other suggestions anyone may have??? not even sure if this type of thing is done??.. tank has wood grain trim and looking to paint it balck to match stand and light fixture.. thanks for any help, GG

I did exactly what you want to do. I bought my tank with oak trim and I painted it black.
The key is to sand the original trim down first because otherwise the paint won't stick. Use some masking tape around the trim when you sand so you don't scratch the glass. I used rustoleum weather resistant high gloss spray paint. The paint is absolutely perfect 1.5 years later. Make sure you cover the glass when you spray paint. I only used masking tape near the trim so I had to scrub off some spray that got onto the glass. Just tape some newspaper onto the glass to cover it up.

I painted the tank trim and hood fixture on my freshwater tank.
i cleaned all the plastic pieces first, then I taped and masked off all the glass.
I then sprayed on a coat of primer spray paint for plastic, followed by a few coats of spray paint for plastics.
i can't recall the spray paint name, it was the Lowe's brand, American traditions maybe?
i did not sand, it has help up fairly well. I'm also a big fan of Priming first.
